So Marge has been quiet due to gadding about on holidays...but she's done some samples. Which gave me the kick up the backside to do mine!!!...inspired by the white on white embellishment dress from the Bath Costume Museum...the double knot stitch is holding strips of irish lace together. The thread is a chunky twisted silk.
This Blog is about 2 friends that love embroidery, have stitch offs, enjoy visiting exhibitions, love contemporary stitch and artisan embellishment. Simple really......... Lindsey and Marge

Its always worth revisiting old work..I never really liked this old fella when I first did him, he's grown on me with age...I want to do a Heron in flight at some point.

The first challenge...double knot stitch
So, Margery and I have chosen our first stitch, the double knot stitch. We both buy old stitch or embroidery technique books. I got this stitch from The Batsford encyclopedia of Embroidery Stitches by Anne Butler..its a recent purchase and has a few stitches in there I havent seen before. We are going to see if we do a modern take on it.
Tapestry embellishment
Ive just started to embellish a old tapestry I bought a while ago, I've shredded a vintage scarf and started to do seed stitches over the flowers...its a work in progress, I'm probably going to bead and tuft into it as well! It feels quite daring stitching into something already beautiful that you could spoil. Hopefully not.
