The double knot stitch off

So Marge has been quiet due to gadding about on holidays...but she's done some samples. Which gave me the kick up the backside to do mine!!!...inspired by the white on white embellishment dress from the Bath Costume Museum...the double knot stitch is holding strips of irish lace together. The thread is a chunky twisted silk.

Applique Heron

Its always worth revisiting old work..I never really liked this old fella when I first did him, he's grown on me with age...I want to do a Heron in flight at some point.

Elie Saab 16/17 A/W Inspiration

Oh Elie Saab, you make stuff I want to make!!! So beautiful. Different surfaces, textiles, processes, brilliant composition and colour, what's not to love! NOTHING!

Beads to feel a little bling

I've just started to bead into the tapestry...... I love the contrast between the dry aged wool tapestry and the lush gloss beautiful cats teeth beads....So many more to add!!!

Bath Museum of Costume inspiration

I stumbled over some pictures I took at the Costume museum in Bath last year,..every time I book a archive visit so I can handle stitch and embellishment from the 17th century to current day I feel so lucky and am so inspired! The white on white knot stitch on paper had a similar feel to this beauty!

The double knot stitch

I've been testing my stitching skills and getting used to the rhythm of the double knot stitch, its quite a nice one to play with and seems to look better the larger the thread you use. I've been using some Stef Francis silk threads which are lovely to stitch with...I'm definitely getting some ideas on how to use it creatively! LVC.

vintage birdie

So, another one of my birdies finished out of my vintage textiles collection, he just needs some branches and foliage to perch on before I frame him!

The first challenge...double knot stitch

So, Margery and I have chosen our first stitch, the double knot stitch. We both buy old stitch or embroidery technique books. I got this stitch from The Batsford encyclopedia of Embroidery Stitches by Anne Butler..its a recent purchase and has a few stitches in there I havent seen before.  We are going to see if we do a modern take on it.

Tapestry embellishment

Ive just started to embellish a old tapestry I bought a while ago, I've shredded a vintage scarf and started to do seed stitches over the flowers...its a work in progress, I'm probably going to bead and tuft into it as well! It feels quite daring stitching into something already beautiful that you could spoil. Hopefully not.

An idea.

The idea behind this blog is for 2 friends to share their embroidery and embellishment musings, experiments and work. Share their combined practice, experiences and knowledge...and hopefully have fun in the process.
